Chabai Song Festival, a memorial festival of Bouyei ethnic group in Xingyi area in the southeast part of Guizhou Province, is held from June 21st to 23rd of every lunar year in Dingxiao Town of Xingyi City. The festival is titled this name in commemoration of Cha Lang (a young man in the Cha family) and Bai Mei (a maiden in the Bai family), a couple of young lovers who resisted and removed evil from the people and died for love. A few days around the festival, nearly 40,000 people from the counties far and near and even from the neighboring Guangxi and Yunnan Province come to join the Song Festival, and the festival is really of a large scale and heated atmosphere. What a spectacle of splendid sight! Main activities of Chabai Song Festival include: singing contest in the Song Festival, call on relatives and friends, eat stockpot, ganbiao (an activity of making new friends or expressing love via singing) and offer sacrifice to mountain. Usually the festival lasts for 3 days with the first day as its climax. |
